Spoons (Pisa) by Zo'é
Heritage and Artistry
The Zo'é Indigenous People live in the north of the Amazon and speakers of tupi-guarani language, they are group of near 300 people, who practice agriculture, hunting and gathering. They are highly mobile and knowledgeable of the resources on their environment. Utilizing these resources they developed the arts of weaving, ceramic and semi-permanent construction. Each spoon (Pisa), is hand-made from a coconut shell and intricately tied to a handle of hardwood (cabo de waniun). These spoons represent a profound intersection of utility and indigenous technology.
